Mary E. Pratt, obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Mary E. Pratt, 80, died Wednesday, February 9, 2022, after a brief battle with lung cancer, with her loving daughters by her side holding her hand, at the Sussman House in Rockport. Her passing was beautiful and peaceful.
Born in Rockland, February 7, 1942, she was the daughter of Herbert W. and Mary Teel. She attended local schools and was a 1960 graduate of ‘The Old’ Rockland High School.
She worked many years for the Gerrish family at Doug’s Gift Shop, as well as other retail jobs in Rockland. Her greatest paycheck came while working at G.I. Moms in Rockland, where she captured the eye of a handsome Sheriff’s deputy, Malcom “Mac” Pratt. He became a frequent patron and after three short months they were married on November 15, 1975. They settled in Rockport where they raised their daughters and ran their business, Mac’s Autobody. In 1989 they built a log cabin on Coleman Pond in Lincolnville, where they made great friends on Richards Road.
Mary was known for having long, beautifully painted nails. She played on various bowling leagues and still holds a record for highest women’s single at Oakland Park Lanes. She loved playing Bingo and loved all of her ‘Bingo Buddies’.
Mary was also an avid Red Sox Fan and loved talking about stats and game details with her grandson Nate. Her grandsons Alex and Ben, fondly remember Grammie as being their biggest fan, never missing a sporting event and even sitting through a baseball game in the pouring rain with Nanny Teel.
Grammie’s Christmas candy was always an anticipated treat. She made her candy extra early this year so she could get it in the mail to grandson Patrick who was deployed in Kuwait.
Grammie was so incredibly proud of all her grandsons and their wives, their accomplishments and the lives they have built. Mary tended to be stubborn, but she was quick to correct her daughters and say, “I’m not stubborn, I’m determined.”
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Mac Pratt in 2019; her mother, Mary Teel in 2009; her brother, Herbert J. Teel in 1997; and her dad, Herbert W. Teel in 1966.
She is survived by her daughters, Tena Wallace and husband Peter of St. George, Michelle Philbrook and husband Todd of Rockland; her grandsons, U.S. Army Sgt, Patrick Wallace of Ft. Drum, New York, Alex Wallace and wife Abby of South Berwick, Ben Wallace and wife Aly of Biddeford, Nate Philbrook and wife Aleigha of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; her five grand puppies; her very special sister-in-law, Maxine Crumbley of Spear Fish, South Dakota; as well as very dear friends Steve and Jane Hardy, Will Hardy and Suzanne Webber, Bob and Rilla Bateman and Jan Pennell.
Her daughters would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Patrick Mitchell and Dr. Andrew Filderman for their care and guidance, and to the nurses and CNAs at the Sussman House for their compassionate care for
their mom.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m., at her home, 1053 Beach Road, Lincolnville, ME 04849.
