Francis E. Splaine, Jr., obituary
ROCKLAND — Francis E. ‘Frank’ Splaine, Jr., 92, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Bella Pointe Assisted Living Center in Camden.
Born November 23, 1928 in Lewiston, he was the son of Francis “Frank” Sr. and Winifred Atwood Splaine. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in textile engineering.
On August 9, 1952, he married Janice May. Living in Rhode Island for one year, they moved to Rochester, New Hampshire for five years, where he worked in a local textile mill. Later he went to work for Huyck Felt Company, and spent nine years in Aliceville, Alabama, becoming Plant Superintendent. In 1969 he and his family moved to Geelong, Australia, where he was Managing Director. In 1973, Frank and his family moved to Valatie, New York where he became the Huyck Vice President of Manufacturing. After many changes in the company, he resigned and moved to Maine to become Plant Manager of the Knox Mill in Camden.
Frank was an active member of the Rockland Golf Club, where he enjoyed playing with his friends. He was also a member of the Rockland Elks Lodge No. 1008.
Frank is survived by his wife of 69 years, Janice; his four sons, James Splaine and his partner Therese Howley of Balston, New York, Peter Splaine and his wife Lori of Denver, Colorado, Robert Splaine and his wife Kelley of Lincolnville, and Daniel Splaine and his wife Peg of Little River, South Carolina; his grandsons, Patrick Splaine and his wife Laura of Bangor, Ryan Splaine and his partner Chaya Stilson of Rockland.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Stephanie Woodcok and Roberta Bergeron.
In keeping with Mr. Splaine’s wishes, his family has chosen to remember his life privately. In remembrance, donations may be made to Spinal Cord Research, Craig Hospital, 3425 South Clarkson St., Englewood CO, 80110-2899, in the name of Peter A. Splaine.
