CAMDEN — Camden Public Library has announced its programs for November 2021.
Month-Long Events:
November 2 through 29, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Carol L. Douglas: Welcome back to real life. Throughout the month of November, the Camden Public Library will host Rockport artist Carol L. Douglas for a show of her paintings in the library’s Picker Room. The show is entitled, Welcome back to real life, will highlight Douglas’s paintings created during the pandemic.
November 1 through December 31, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. “Gift Worthy” Book Sale. The Camden Public Library’s full book sale returns to the library’s Rotunda just in time for the holiday season. This book sale is extra special because it is chock full of books in excellent condition . . . one might say "gift worthy!" Books will be restocked regularly to guarantee a bountiful selection of fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, young adult books, audio books, DVDs, and more. Most prices $1 to $3.

Diane Lebson’s online class will draw on lessons from her new book, For a Good Cause: A Practical Guide to Giving Joyfully, which gives women useful advice on how to make a greater impact with their philanthropic engagement. Children's librarian Miss Amy hosts an event in the parking lot directly behind the library where children can meet a local police officer and check out a police vehicle. Local thespian Joseph Coté will read aloud from Paul Theroux’s book, On the Plain of Snakes: A Mexican Journey about the rich, layered world of the US/Mexico border. New readings become available to watch every Friday at 11:00 am in the “videos” section of the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.
Friday, November 5, 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Artist Reception for Carol L. Douglas’s Show: Welcome back to real life. Throughout the month of November, the Camden Public Library will host Rockport artist Carol L. Douglas for a show of her paintings in the library’s Picker Room. The artist’s reception at the library is an opportunity for the public to meet Douglas in person to discuss her work.

Saturday, November 6 – Saturday, November 13, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Silent Art Auction at Page Gallery to Benefit the Camden Public Library. The Camden Public Library is putting together a silent art auction featuring well-known midcoast artists. The show will be on display at Page Gallery in Camden from November 6 through November 13. Saturday, November 13, is a special all-day “Open House Reception” at the gallery, welcoming viewers and bidders from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Bids can be placed throughout the week in person, and by calling or emailing Page Gallery. The art auction is a fundraiser to benefit the Camden Public Library.

Tuesday, November 9, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Coastal Mountains Land Trust Series: From Greenville to Belfast, a 300-Mile Paddling Journey. In May of 2021, Jackie Stratton, her partner Nate, and her dog Maple embarked on a 24-day canoe trip from Greenville to Belfast, ME. Primarily following the route of Henry David Thoreau, Penobscot guide Joe Polis, and countless indigenous people, their 300+ mile padding journey included 8 miles of historic portage routes to connect the Kennebec Headwaters, West Branch, East Branch, and Main Stem of the Penobscot River. In this online presentation, Stratton will share about how they prepared, naturalist highlights, lessons learned, and what it’s like to be on ‘river time’. The Camden Conference Community Events series with Camden Public Library continues with a presentation by Anne Hall, retired U.S. Ambassador and career diplomat with 32 years of experience with the Department of State. The Baltic nations have proud histories as independent nations with distinct cultures and languages. Since their independence from the Soviet Union they have built dynamic, democratic societies, with economies that rank among Europe’s most innovative. At the same time, the Baltics continue to face threats from their increasingly hostile neighbor to the east. Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, the Suwalki Gap, and on-going Russian disinformation and cyber attacks will be among the topics discussed.
