Camden considers support of amending Maine’s constitution with Pine Tree Amendment
CAMDEN — The Select Board in Camden will convene Tuesday evening, and among the topics to address is a resolution to join a statewide effort to amend Maine’s constitution with an act “To Establish a Right to a Healthy Environment.”
The proposal is embedded in LD 489, sponsored by Senator Chloe Maxmin. D-Nobleboro, and carried over to the next Legislative session. It received bipartisan majority votes in support last winter, but not the two-thirds majority as required to pass.
The resolution, as summarized, is “to amend the Constitution of Maine to grant the people of the State a right to a clean and healthy environment and to the preservation of the natural, cultural, recreational, scenic and healthful qualities of the environment.”
Camden is being asked to endorse the Pine Tree Amendment, and has been provided paperwork from Brunswick’s City Council, which approved it June 7, 2021, and urged the Senate and House of Representatives of the Maine Legislature to pass LD 489.
IN OTHER BUSINESS
The Select Board will consider signing a contract with Snow Dogs, owned by Jason Doppelt, of Camden, to run the Snow Bowl concession food and drink business for the Dec. 2021- April 2022 winter season.
According to the Snow Dog proposal (see packet for full proposal), the concession will be open Wednesday through Sunday, when the Snow Bowl is open for business, and offer breakfast and lunch.
Doppelt anticipates hiring seven to nine employees, with pay to range from $17 to $30 an hour.
The menu is to include breakfast wraps and sandwiches, beef and vegetarian hot dogs, beed and vegetarian burgers, and grilled chicken sandwiches.
“The goal of this business is too make money by selling food for a profit, while paying employees a living wage,” the proposal said.
At the harbor, a proposal to build new six new floats has been submitted by Custom Float Services, Inc.
The floats are to consist of pressure-treated southern yellow pine, with a float drum floatation system.
The total cost is $96,342.
