John A. Colson, obituary
John Adlebert Colson, of Orem, Utah was released, from his earthly struggles and returned to his Father in Heaven on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the age of 52. He is at peace and his giant spirit is free of his frail body.
John was born in Rockland, Maine on August 12, 1969 to Percy and Beverly Colson. He attended and graduated from Rockland High School (Rockland, Maine), Utah Valley State College (Orem, Utah), and Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah).
John enjoyed sports, especially basketball and any sports his kids were doing. He loved “lobsta” fresh off the boat in his home state of Maine. He also enjoyed the outdoors, making new friends, long talks, and learning new things. He was a natural coach and enjoyed teaching and mentoring others. John was a personal trainer before becoming a finance professional in the mortgage and insurance industries. He enjoyed helping and educating others with their physical and financial health.
John was a passionate person and fiercely devoted to his Savior and his family. He met and married his sweetheart, Kristen, in 1992. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Jordan River Temple on December 19 and faced all of life’s challenges together. They enjoyed watching movies and traveling together as a family.
John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite service opportunities were as a missionary in both the Colorado Denver Mission and the Utah Salt Lake City Mission, as well as being a teacher and mentor to the young men.
John had multiple health challenges throughout his life, including 3 kidney transplants and a heart attack. He faced each challenge valiantly and was an inspiration to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed, but his suffering has ended. His spirit and legacy will carry on through every person whose life he touched.
John is survived by his wife, Kristen Saavedra Colson, and his children Jonny (Ariah), Chris, Adam, and Micaela. He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Earl Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, at the church at 1485 N 800 W, Orem, Utah 84057, at 11 a.m., following a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
