ROCKPORT — The crash looked bad for the vehicles involved, but luckily nobody was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in the three-car accident at the intersection of routes 17 and 90 in West Rockport.

According to Rockport police, 17-year-old Dakota Powers of Rockland was driving a 1996 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle westbound on Route 17 May 21, when she slowed at the intersection of Route 90 to make a lefthand turn. Powers turned her vehicle in front of an oncoming eastbound 2004 Nissan SUV being driven by John David Gleason, 35, of Union, and Gleason crashed into the passenger side of Powers' vehicle.

The impact spun Powers' SUV around and across the median on Route 90, where it collided with Heather Christie's 2013 Honda sedan, which was waiting at the red light. Christie, 47, is from Rockport.

Rockport police and fire units responded, along with Camden First Aid Association, but nobody had to be transported to the hospital, according to Officer Craig Cooley.

Cooley said Powers was not summonsed for causing the accident, but the cause in the report was failure to yield right of way.

Both SUVs were towed from the scene due to the extent of damage, making them inoperable. Christie's Honda sustained minor damage to the front on the driver's side.

Police Chief Mark Kelley investigated the accident.
