ROCKLAND – An electrical contractor for the new Mid-Coast School of Technology building in Rockland has filed a lien against the property for almost $255,000 for payments the contractor said is owed for work performed during the construction.

ELCO Electric, of Bangor, filed the lien Oct. 7 in the Knox County Registry of Deeds.

The certificate of mechanic’s lien states that ELCO provided labor and materials totaling $224, 673 for the Mid-Coast of Technology building as part of a subcontract agreement, dated Sept. 26, 2017, with the Sheridan Corporation, of Portland.

The lien was filed to secure the payment owed to ELCO. The final date of labor, materials and services performed or furnished for the project ended on or about Sept. 25, 2019, according to the lien document.

Besides payment, ELCO is seeking statutory late fees, interest and attorney fees.

Attorney Brett Baber of Lanham, Blackwell and Baber in Bangor is representing ELCO.

On October 16, Baber stated in an email that, “if a resolution is not forthcoming, a lawsuit to enforce the mechanic’s lien would need to be brought before mid-January, 2020, and would be filed in the Knox County Superior Court.”

“Until then the parties will be engaging in efforts to resolve the dispute that is reflected in the notice of the mechanic’s lien that is on file in the Knox County Registry of Deeds,” he added.
