Belmont man drifts off road, goes airborne over driveway
BELFAST — A Belmont man was left shaken following a single vehicle accident on Route 3, just before the Jesse Robbins Road around 3:45 today, Sept. 7.
Dana Bowden, 63, told Belfast Police he hadn’t been paying attention when his vehicle drifted off the roadway into a ditch, according to Sergeant Daniel Fitzpatrick. The Saturn Ion went airborne after striking a culvert running over a private drive, landing on the other side of the driveway, where the vehicle came to rest.
“You can pretty much tell what happened if you take a look,” Sergeant Fitzpatrick said, gesturing toward the tire impressions leading up to a now-smashed culvert.
Bowden was treated by Belfast Ambulance personnel at the scene.
Traffic remained steady despite slowing as those journeying away from Belfast kept a safe distance from those responding to the scene.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
