Community meetings provide free support to those affected by addiction
BELFAST — Those in recovery face a tough and often perilous road en route to a life free from the chains of addiction, but some in Waldo County are getting support from an unexpected source — the Sheriff’s Office.
Community support meetings are held weekly, both in Belfast and at Two Bridges Regional Jail, in Wiscasset, where there is one meeting for men and another for women.
Recovery coaches, training get established Waldo County to combat opioid epidemic
BELFAST — Volunteers of America Northern New England and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office are recruiting volunteers to train to become part of the newly formed Maine RecoveryCorps. The goal is to tackle substance abuse and opioid epidemic in the community.

Unity man to serve nine months in prison for gross sexual assault
BELFAST — A Unity man was sentenced to four years in prison with all but nine months suspended in Waldo County Unified Court Jan.17 for a gross sexual assault committed in Belfast Oct.1.

Ken McKinley replaces Doug Cole as Rockport Select Board chairman
ROCKPORT — Members of the Rockport Select Board voted unanimously to elect Ken McKinley as their acting chairman during a Jan. 14 meeting at the Rockport Opera House. McKinley now holds the role which Doug Cole resigned from on Jan. 6, who has said that he wishes to stay on as a regular member of the board. McKinley was chairman of the board until June, when Cole had assumed that role.
