Washington resident recognized by Spirit of America Foundation
ROCKLAND - The Knox County Commission at their regular meeting on Tuesday, March, 8 presented Washington resident Madelon Kelly with a certificate of recognition. Kelly was chosen as the 2015 award winner from the Town of Washington by the Spirit of America Foundation, a public charity that works to encourage volunteerism in Maine.
Kelly has served on the Gibb’s Library Board of Trustees since the library opened in 1993, and for the last 17 years she has volunteered as a librarian.
“There is no way to number the amount of hours Ms. Kelly has worked at Gibbs Library, taking care of the numerous and sometimes demanding needs of a library,” the commissioners noted.
“Kelly has been a role model for the other volunteers. She is also an educator, teaching Science to seventh and eighth graders in Washington. For three years in a row, she has led her students to the Maine Science Olympiad Championship and also taken the team to the National Championship Tournament.
“The Knox County Commission was proud to be able to recognize Kelly as she is an excellent example of volunteerism and community involvement, and thank her for her many years of dedicated service.”
