Ted Haber Jr., obituary
BELMONT, Maine and LAKELAND, Florida— Ted Haber Jr., 74, formerly of Belmont, Maine, passed away suddenly August 28, 2025 in Lakeland, Florida. Ted was born in Albany, New York on July 30, 1951, the oldest son of Theodore Haber Sr. and Dorothy (Lowe) Haber.
Ted grew up in Belmont, Maine and graduated from Belfast Area High School in 1969. He married Rose Porter and had two sons, Ted Haber III and Josh Haber. They moved to Zephyrhills, Florida before Josh was born. Ted learned mechanics from his Dad, and they ran Ted Haber and Sons Garage in Belmont. He also worked at C.A. Paul’s and Lothrop Ford in Belfast. Ted loved old cars. He beautifully restored two of his favorites, a ’55 Chevy convertible and a ’57 Chevy.
Ted grew up in Belmont and had many happy years with our family, but he longed for warm weather and had a great love for the ocean. He worked at Heritage Ford in Zephyrhills, Florida for many years before owning and operating three garages in Florida and two mower shops. In later years, he purchased a van, traveling all over Florida helping people working on their vehicles and mowers. Ted loved his kids, grandchildren, and our family very much. He was a kind, sweet person. For many years, we had a lot of fun walking daily at Alligator Alley in Lakeland, Florida. Ted was always a tease. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends in both Maine and Florida.
Ted was predeceased by his parents; sister Judy Schmitz; and ex-wife, Rose (Porter) Haber.
He is survived by his siblings Darlene Whitcomb and husband Randy of Belmont, Cheryl Lucas and husband Steve of Montville, Paul Haber and friend Bea Thomas of Northport, Karen (Haber) Bryant of Belfast, Bruce Haber of Camden, Kevin Haber and wife Janet of Winterport and half-brother Larry Metcalf of Swanville; sons Ted Haber III of Lakeland, Florida and Josh Haber and wife Deanna of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren Madison, McKenna, Raylinn, Kelsey and Colton, all of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins in Maine.
