Stephanie Elaine Schloegel, obituary
UNION — Stephanie Elaine Schloegel, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on February 27, 2026 in Rockport.
Born in Encino, California, on January 8, 1945, and growing up in California, Stephanie was sent to a finishing school in upstate New York where she was an English major in college and fell in love with the East Coast. She was passionate about art and attended Cal State Long Beach in Southern California. She later attended nursing school and worked at Santa Monica Hospital, where she met her close friend, Trish. Her favorite memory was getting Trish to attend ballet classes and going to see The Phantom of the Opera in Hollywood. She practiced nursing from 1986 to 1991.
After her nursing career, she moved to upstate New York with her five cats that her friend Helen shipped to her in 1994. There she purchased her home and remodeled both the house and the barn, which became her art studio. She had a deep love for gardening and interior decorating, along with painting and ceramics.
Her ultimate goal was to move to Maine, buy a "fixer-upper," and make it her home. She had a passion for growing the sweetest cantaloupes and wasn’t afraid to tell people exactly how to grow them. She also loved to visit and babysit the next-door neighbor's cat, whom she affectionately called "her niece."
Stephanie kept in close contact with her friends in California, often texting on her phone throughout the day. She will be greatly missed by all of her California and New York friends, along with her Maine neighbors.
She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Powsner, formerly of California.
