‘Stage Combat’ at Cold Comfort theater
BELFAST — Cold Comfort Theater presents another professional training opportunity in the Midcoast for actors and other performers through the Stage Combat Intensive this Jan. 30 and 31, from 10 a.m. — 3 p.m. at the Belfast Dance Studio.
"Stage Combat" can include any kind of violence on stage, from a basic slap to a Shakespearean sword fight. The goal when creating these exchanges is always to keep performers safe while creating exciting, violent stories onstage. It is the ultimate challenge for an actor to be physically connected to the character while working safely with a partner in moments of heightened emotion. As Macduff says," I have no words: my voice is in my sword."
With Society of American Fight Directors certified teacher Angela Bonacasa, explore unarmed and knife, the most common disciplines used in contemporary theater. With a special focus on performance, the participants will play with exercises and choreography to better understand how to physically commit to violence while working with a partner and remaining safe. Whether you have experience with theatrical violence or are a complete beginner, this workshop will give additional insight into the world of stage combat.
A fee of $50 will be charged.
