Sheryl A. Richards, service and obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Sheryl A. Richards, devoted and loving wife of John Richards, Sr., peacefully passed away in her sleep at her home during the early morning hours of October 31, 2020.
Born in Castine on July 1, 1948, she was the daughter of Christie and Pearl Spofford. She proudly shared her birthday (only by 15 minutes) with her identical twin sister, Laurel Taylor, with whom she shared a deep lifelong bond.
Sheryl graduated from Camden High School and went on to marry the love of her life on December 20, 1969. John L. Richards, Sr. was the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Together they raised two children, John Jr. and Jodi. Sheryl reveled in being a homemaker, stay-at-home mother and an awesome cook/baker while John worked hard for the family business, Richards Bus Service, and went on to drive the high school kids safely to and from school for many years. She found so much joy in her job and loved every one of “her kids” that rode the bus. Over the years, Sheryl and John traveled the country together, but she always found the most pleasure camping along the Atlantic Ocean in Searsport and “up county” on Moosehead Lake.
Sheryl is survived by her husband of 50 years, John; her two children, John Jr. and his wife, Tammy, and Jodi and her partner, Juan; grandchildren, Ryan, Devin and Myia; sister-in-law, Donna Brown and her husband, Steve; niece, Kristi Brown; nephew, James Brown; many extended family, friends; and her beloved black lab, Annie.
She also leaves behind, her twin sister, Laurel.
A graveside committal service will be held in the spring of 2021 at Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville.
One of Sheryl’s favorite pastimes was to crochet cat beds and donate them to the local animal shelters for stray cats to sleep on. Please consider making a donation in her memory to PAWS Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856 or to Pope Memorial. P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
