Rockville Chapel offers live music for summer
ROCKPORT — The summer schedule of events at the Rockville Community Chapel, 87 Old Rockland St. (off Route 17 behind the Green Thumb), will open Sunday, June 21, with a 3 p.m. sing-along.
Sybil Wentworth and Granville Ames are joining together to present a "Sentimental Journey" sing-along program, offering an opportunity to enjoy popular songs from the early 1900s. Wentworth will play the piano and Ames will lead the singing. Both have god, strong voices and are well-known locally.
Ames has been involved with gospel music groups and barbershop harmony ensembles for many years. He traveled throughout Maine and New England for 20 of those years as a member of the Harborside Gospel Quartet. He has directed choirs and has been song leader at both the Rockport and West Rockport Baptist churches. Most recently, he served as the director and assistant director of the Windjammer Barbershop Chorus.
Wentworth tickle the ivories for this sing-along celebration and also will share some ragtime and other nostalgic piano selections. Many will recognize her as a longtime music teacher in local schools, church musician or as a participant in various community music events.
Everyone is invited to come, relax, join in the singing and have a piece of homemade fudge (on sale at intermission). The fun is free, but a suggested donation of $5 is greatly appreciated.
Upcoming events in the Rockville Community Chapel Association's calendar include a performance by a cappella ensemble VoXX: Voice of Twenty Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m.; tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door or in advance from any Chapel board member. The series will be capped by a 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Blueberry Social Saturday, Aug. 8, including music by the Belfast Bay Fiddlers.
