Pihcintu Multinational Girl’s Chorus takes Waldo Theatre stage Oct. 28
WALDOBORO — The Waldo brings Pihcintu Multinational Girl’s Chorus to the stage on National Immigration Day, Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.
Based in Portland and featuring young women from Cambodia, China, Congo, El Salvador, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, Viet Nam, British West Indies, Zambia, along with children whose families have been here for generations, this group seeks to bring together children from diverse backgrounds to sing as one. Pihcintu was founded by Con Fullam a five- time Emmy Nominated television producer and a multi-award winning songwriter, producer and performer.
War-torn villages, bloodshed, refugee camps, famine, and political turmoil were devastating realities for many of these young singers before being embraced by the warmth, companionship and harmony that Pihcintu Chorus provides.
“The power of survival eases but never erases the memory of unthinkable atrocities, physical danger and personal tragedy,” said The Waldo, in a news release. “This unique chorus of girls have formed a powerful and permanent bond. Through the healing power of music, these vulnerable, yet brave, young women have learned to trust, hope and laugh again. The children and their music are transformative. Being in their presence is a life-enhancing experience and they touch the hearts of all who hear them.”
Since its inception in 2006 the chorus has performed for over 300,000 live and hundreds of millions via broadcast and internet media including the Today Show, National Public Radio, Voice of America, Al Jazeera, Univision, UN TV and You Tube.
They have appeared at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington DC, The National Cathedral, Washington, DC and the United Nations, New York, New York to name but a few of the venues. Over the course of time over 300 girls representing 40 countries have passed through the chorus with 100% high school graduation and 85% post-secondary education.
Concession including beer and wine will be available at the show. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $10 in advance online and $15 in person the day of the show.
