ROCKPORT — The Penobscot Bay YMCA’s Boogie for the Babes, a night of music and dancing to support their Child Care Program, will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Rockport Opera House, in Rockport.

“This event will feature live music by two popular local bands that are guaranteed to get everyone on the dance floor,” said the YMCA, in a news release.

Opening the evening will be local cover band Minivan Carpool, followed by headliner The Watts Hall Band. Minivan Carpool, known for their vibrant energy and classic hits, will take guests on a retro musical journey.

“Whether guests are looking to relive those golden days or just enjoy some fantastic live music, this band has something for everyone,” said the release.

The Watts Hall Band is a lively, vocally-driven, 11-piece band.

“Boasting a full horn section, amazing keyboards, soulful sax solos, and guitar leads provide high-energy with danceable rock, blues and R&B favorites,” said the Y.

“This event is made possible with special thanks to sponsors CedarWorks, Midcoast Sports Exchange, and Allen Insurance | Financial,” said the Y.

Tickets are on sale now for $35 per person and can be purchased online at penbayymca.square.site. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar.

The Y is the largest provider of child care in Knox County, providing 100 children ages six weeks old to five years of age with quality care, according to the release. To support equitable access, the Y accepts DHHS subsidies and recently launched a child care financial assistance program for working families who do not qualify for DHHS support. In response to the escalating child care crisis and long waitlists, the Y opened the Lily Pond Infant Center in 2023, which now serves up to 18 babies each week.
