CAMDEN — Page Gallery presents “Picnic in the Garden” exhibition of paintings from Hannah Berta, Sophie Cangelosi, and Colin Page. The show highlights three artists who invite us to share their experience of life in Maine according to Page, in a news release.

The exhibition will open with a public reception during the Camden Art Walk on Thursday, June 20, from 5 - 7 p.m., and will be on display through July 12. Camden artist Colin Page will present an artist talk about his work on Thursday, July 11, at 5 p.m.

Rockport artist Hannah Berta combines painting and intricate hand cut paper to create complex interactions; patterns that half observe, half reveal what lies beneath. Pinned an inch from the background, Berta's delicately cut paper casts shadows, mimicking the effect of looking through dense foliage as the viewer changes their angle of observation.

“With a sense of lightness and depth, Berta's pieces show a careful study of moments of beauty in nature,” said Page Gallery, in a news release.

Rockland artist Sophie Cangelosi uses her graphic sensibility to create paintings with vibrant color shapes and patterned surfaces. Cangelosi's paintings are social and youthful. Cangelosi invites the viewer along as she paints a walk in the woods, candlelit gathering around her table, or visit to the beach. With compositions considerate of scale and perspective, her paintings capture intimate moments of friends and loved ones in the Maine landscape.

Colin Page's joyful paintings tell the stories of home and an idyllic Maine childhood through the eyes of a father. Page finds richness of color through reflected light and subtle variations of temperature, making simple neighborhood scenes special by the contrast of warm sun and cool shadows. Sensitively observed with gestural brushstrokes, Page's saturated hues vibrate, recreating the energy of the subject; a full life of family with a connection to their surroundings.

The opening reception for “Picnic in the Garden” coincides with Camden's Art Walk on Thursday, June 20 from 5-7 pm when Bay View Street will be closed to vehicles and there will be live music, a food truck by @brothershucker, crafting with Miss Amy from the Camden Public Library, and galleries and shops open late. Camden Pride Pop-Ups will be presenting a Pride Fashion Show for all ages and Gunner and Lux will be on-site with a do-it-yourself necklace building station.
