One flown to hospital by helicopter following Brooks ATV crash
On Monday, July 3, at approximately 5:22 p.m., Maine State troopers responded to a serious personal injury crash on the Kenney Road in Brooks.
An ATV traveling on a public way crashed and rolled over multiple times coming to rest partially in the roadway, according to a news release from the Maine Dept. of Public Safety.
The operator, a 17-year-old male from Monroe, was transported to Waldo County General Hospital for minor injuries. His passenger, Zach Turner, 18. of Unity, was flown by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with life threatening injuries.
“Speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors to the crash,” the release said.
The Maine Forest Service, Maine Warden Service and Brooks Fire and Ambulance all assisted on scene. This incident is under investigation by the Maine State Police Central Field Troop along with a Crash Reconstructionist with the Traffic Safety Unit.
The operator of the ATV is not being named as he is a juvenile, the release said.
