Man found covered in blood gets six months in jail
BELFAST — A Swanville man who was arrested after being discovered “covered in blood,” was sentenced to 42 months in prison, with all but six months suspended, in Waldo County Criminal Court April 25.
The sentence is the result of the most serious of the five charges leveled against him after the March 5 assault: Domestic violence assault.
Scott A. Moores, 37, was convicted of three of the five charges relating to the violent incident, including: domestic violence assault, reckless violation of a protection order, and tampering with a witness, informant, juror or victim.
Relatives reported Moores to police after he arrived at their residence coated in blood and admitted having been in an altercation with a woman he was already barred from contacting.
During the course of the investigation it was discovered that there were witnesses to the assault, which occurred at Moores’ residence.
Witnesses stated that after being awoken by the sound of crying, they saw Moores punch the victim in the head with a closed fist. This reportedly caused the victim to be “thrown backwards” and into a wall, according to court documents.
Moores also attempted to coerce a witness to lie about the nature of an earlier 9-1-1 disconnect from the residence, a demand they reportedly complied with out of fear of further violence. It was later learned that Moores had headbutted the victim in the face immediately prior to witnesses waking up and attempting to intervene.
It was at this time Moores left his residence and traveled to a relative’s Belfast residence, where he was ultimately arrested.
Moores’ victim was interviewed by police the following day and transported to Waldo County General Hospital for treatment of injuries.
In addition to serving six months for domestic violence assault, Moores will spend three years on probation. Moores must also serve six months in prison for reckless violation of a protective order and an additional six months for tampering with a witness, informant, juror or victim.
The charges of criminal threatening and obstructing the report of a crime were both dismissed as part of a plea deal.
