Gulf of Maine Research Institute welcomes new Chief Operating Officer
PORTLAND — After conducting a national search, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) announces Nana Annan as the next Chief Operating Officer.
Annan brings more than 25 years of operations experience to GMRI. She most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Harlem Children’s Zone — a New York City-based nonprofit with an annual budget over $150M and almost $1B in managed assets.
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated excellence in the management of real estate and facilities, information technology, human resources, finance, safety and security, and strategic planning for organizations experiencing rapid growth, according to the Institute, in a news release.
“I am happy to join Gulf of Maine Research Institute as they continue to conduct groundbreaking studies on the local ecosystem and ocean along with their work around aquaculture and other ocean related fields with a national impact,” said Annan.
Annan is joining GMRI at a time of growth for the organization. In the last four to five years, GMRI’s operating budget has grown from $13M - $20M and staff size has nearly doubled to roughly 100 employees.
In addition to her professional experience, Annan’s educational background has prepared her to lead the operations function at GMRI; she holds a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Science from Spelman College.
“Nana will be an excellent addition to the team in developing and delivering collaborative solutions to global challenges while partnering with other leading organizations in our work,” said GMRI CEO Glenn Prickett.
