George ‘Eddie’ Jacobs Jr., obituary
HOPE — George Edward “Eddie” Jacobs Jr., 86, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor.
Eddie was born at home, in Hope to Jennie M. and George Jacobs Sr. He was their oldest son. Eddie attended the Hope Grammar School. His eighth-grade class was the first to hold a graduation. He graduated from Union High School in 1954. After high school Eddie enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a jet airplane mechanic from 1954 to 1957.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force he worked at Maplewood Poultry Factory in Belfast. He began as a packer and then later trained to be a State Agricultural Inspector.
Eddie enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and telling stories. He also enjoyed several winters in Florida with his wife. He was a long-time member and deacon of South Hope Community Church.
Other than his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Robert.
He is survived, and will be greatly missed, by his wife of 52 years, Laura S. Jacobs; his daughter, Kimberly Colson; three grandchildren Jessica, Travis and Wesley Colson; as well as four great-grandchildren, Rylee Harford, Rebecca, Benjamin and Ronni Colson.
He is also survived by a brother, Wilbur Jacobs; and a sister, Edith Clarey.
A graveside service with Military Honors, will be held Friday, November 19, 2021, at 12 p.m., at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Pastor Jamie Bickell will officiate. A family gathering will be held after Eddie’s service at Wilbur Jacob’s home in Hope.
