The MaineHealth Center for Health Improvement Community Health department at Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals is offering A Matter Of Balance, free eight-week course in partnership with the Rockland Public Library. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from Sept. 30 through Dec. 2, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., in the library’s Community Room, located at 80 Union Street, Rockland.

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities.

A Matter Of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels with an emphasis on practical strategies. Participants will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home and utilize exercise to increase strength and balance.

This course is recommended for anyone aged 60 and older who is concerned about falls and interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength.

"If you have fallen in the past or have restricted your activities because of falling concerns, come join us," said MaineHealth, in a news release.
