Frances J. ‘Fran’ Quinn, obituary
SPRUCE HEAD — Frances J. ‘Fran’ Quinn, 87, died peacefully, with her loving husband and children at her side, Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport.
Born in Needham, Massachusetts, November 6, 1935, she was the daughter of Francis and Ada Jefferson Taylor. Fran spent her early years in Needham until moving to Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire where she attended Holy Rosary Catholic High School. During that time, her family owned and operated a general store and filling station and she was one of the first female gas station attendants.
Following high school, Fran attended the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating first in her class. She began her nursing career working in the Polio wards during the epidemic. Later her career took her to the Fatima Boys Summer Camp where she met a young cook named James Quinn. The rest, as they say, was history and Fran and James were married in August of 1959. Together they made their first home in White River Junction, Vermont. Later the couple raised their two children in Springfield and Chelmsford, Massachusetts before retiring to St. George in 1991. Always active in the lives of her children, Fran was a Girl Scout Leader and taught Catechism classes. Even during retirement, Fran kept busy helping others, serving as a nurse and volunteer for Coastal Family Hospice for many years.
She was a talented crafter, making many beautiful quilts and knitted pieces to sell at church fairs. She was an avid reader, and always had a book going. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Predeceased by her sister Sally Schofield; Fran is survived by her husband, James Quinn of Spruce Head; her daughter, Jane Quinn of Maynard, Massachusetts; her son, Dennis Quinn of Springvale, Maine; three grandchildren, Wesley J. Loughran, Madeleine L. Quinn, Dylan M. Quinn; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
