Fingerstyle master offers concert, workshop in Camden
CAMDEN — Fingerstyle guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto returns Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m., to the Camden Opera House. The following morning, he will lead a guitar workshop.
The Japanese-born guitarist moved to the United States in 2000 to attend the Berklee College of Music. Tsukamoto placed second at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in both 2018 and last year. His compositions combine dazzling instrumental guitar work with lyrical performance and spoken stories from his life.
“The result is an eclectic, immersive and mesmerizing evening that embodies the notion that music has no language yet speaks to all,” said the Opera House, in a news release.
The Oct. 27 concert is sponsored by 40 Paper. Choose-your-own reserved seat tickets are $22 in advance and will be $26 day of show.
During his 75-minute workshop, Saturday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m., Tsukamoto will demonstrate fingerstyle techniques including chords and basic theory. He will break down different elements of music, such as tone and rhythm, and explain how to apply them to a regular daily practice routine.
The Community Arts Fund-sponsored workshop is limited to 10 participants and will be held in the opera house’s third-floor Blue Café space. The fee is $35.
Tickets for the concert and registration for the workshop are both via camdenoperahouse.com.
