Fall children’s art and music classes at Mill School in Freedom
FREEDOM — Maine artist and Early Childhood educator Toki Oshima is offering a series of art and music classes at the Mill School in Freedom this fall.
A Parent and Toddler Art Class for children ages 18 months to 4 years old begins Monday, Oct. 5, 9 to 11:15 a.m. and continues on Mondays through Dec. 14 (no class on Monday, Oct. 12). The fee for the 10-week session is $150. Come spend a morning with your child doing an art project, playing in a group, singing songs at circle time, sharing a snack, and watching a puppet show.
Toki is also offering a Children's Singing Group and Art Class for children ages 6-12 years old at the Mill School in Freedom. This eight-week program begins on Oct. 19, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuition is $125, which includes a materials fee. Students should bring a water bottle and snack.
The Singing Group will explore a variety of American folk songs, and will include clapping and movement along with singing. In the Art Class, children will work with watercolor painting, wax-resist using crayons and paint, repeating design with potato printing, and mosaics with cut paper, as well as seasonal crafts. Each class ends with a group game. The class is limited to 10 students.
Toki Oshima grew up in a family that made art and sang together. She received her BFA from the Portland School of Art, has worked as a freelance illustrator for MOFGA, and does graphic design. She holds an MS in Education, and works with home schooled children at Playworks, in Liberty. Making art and singing with children are her favorite things to do; she believes that making art helps children feel connected to this beautiful world.
