The Comedy of Love: Instructional Opera Series scheduled at the Hutchinson Center
BELFAST — In collaboration with the Senior College of Belfast, the University of Maine Hutchinson Center will present the first in a three-part instructional Opera Series, The Comedy of Love, led by music educator Richard Brown. Mozart's Così fan tutte (Women are Like That) will be featured on March 12, from 12:30-4 p.m. Admission is $10 per class and payable at the door.
Mozart's comic masterpiece Così fan tutte (Women are Like That) has been called a perfect ensemble opera. Eighteenth-century morality found its "adulterous machinations" not to its liking. However, morality has changed and Così's brilliance is fully recognized and realized by a young vibrant cast in this Glyndebourne Opera production.
Instructor, Richard Brown earned his bachelor's degree in music education from Boston University and his master's degree in music history and theory from the University of Connecticut. In his career, he has directed musical theater productions, including many of Broadway's best-known musicals. In addition, he has instructed courses in music at the American International College and UMaine's Hutchinson Center.
