CAMDEN — Addie Cutshall, who lives on Blake Street in Camden, could not find her cat. Tommy had gone missing, and did not come when called. Then she heard meowing, and more meowing. She looked up, and there he was, 50 feet up in a maple tree, and not about to descend anytime soon.
He spent the night up there, and the next morning, the neighborhood was on alert.
Down at the waterfront Friday afternoon, July 14, the town’s harbor master was working at his office, when fielded the call for help.
“Steve, I know this is way out of your purview but I didn’t know who else to call,” recounted Harbor Master Steve Pixley. He had lost his beloved cat to a speeding vehicle on Hosmer Pond Road last summer, and was quick to respond to this distressed cat. “The ladder was in place when I got there but the problem was was that Tommy was another 25 feet up from that,” said Pixley. Still, Kane Matheson and Pixley found the tree had sufficient foot holds and was strong enough to hold their weight. Pixley handed Kane a homemade gunny sack (an old pillow case with holes in it), and Kane, “just went up there and got him.” It took some coaxing, but Tommy came down the tree inside the sack, relieved to be back on the ground.Event Date
