Camden Public Library events from August 20 through September 1
CAMDEN — A wide variety of events take place at the Camden Public Library and outside Amphitheatre from Aug. 20 through Sept. 1.
Thursday, August 20
The Gawler Family in a free concert in the Amphitheatre, 7 p.m., co-sponsored by the Camden Public Library and Allen Insurance & Financial. Bring blankets or chairs for seating. In case of rain, the concert will be indoors in the Camden Public Library.
Friday, August 21
Free Walking Tours every Friday at 4 p.m., hosted by the Camden Public Library and the Camden Downtown Business Group. Reservations are encouraged; please call the library at 207-236-3440.
Author Matthew Cost will present his new historical fiction book, “Joshua Chamberlain and the Civil War: At Every Hazard,” at the Camden Public Library on Friday, August 21, at 4 p.m., as part of the Library’s “Maine and the Civil War” lecture series.
Saturday, August 22
The re-enactors of Company B, 20th Maine Volunteers, will be camping in Harbor Park beginning Friday evening. They will host a day-long program of mini-lectures, displays, military drill, and firing drill on Saturday, sponsored by the Camden Public Library’s series of events commemorating the Civil War.
Tenth Annual Children’s Book-Fair-By-The-Sea, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, featuring eight Maine authors and illustrators. Celebrate the many joys of children’s books and the people who bring them to life!
Sunday, August 23
Join Quantum for an afternoon of electronic soundscapes, 1 p.m. in the Camden Amphitheatre. Quantum is Jason Dean and Mike Whitehead, playing keyboards and drum machines with live vocals, all woven together in an electronic web of sound.
Tuesday, August 25
Actor Stephen Collins presents “A Search for Justice,” in a free performance, 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, as part of the library’s Civil War series. The one-person play is about the concepts of justice which drove the participants in the war.
Wednesday, August 26
Author Sarah Moore brings her World War II tale, “Flying Colors” to the Camden Public Library at 2 p.m., the story of veteran Victor “Vic” Tatelman, now 94 years old.
Thursday, August 27
Camden Garden Club hosts Lee Schneller, author of “The Ever Blooming Flower Garden: a blueprint for continuous color,” 9:30 a.m. at the Camden Public Library.
Claudia Schmidt and Sally Rogers in Concert in the Reading Room at the Camden Public Library, 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the library only. Call 236-3440 to make reservations or to purchase tickets; available online at the library’s website at librarycamden.org/shop/.
Friday, August 28
Momentum Theater presents a free performance, “Ma and Pa’s Spectacularium: A Causality Carnival of Chaos” – a condensed version of Shakespeare’s “Henry V,” Alfred Jarry’s “Ubu Roi,” and Larry Jay Tish’s “The Break-up of Cause and Effect.” 3 p.m. in Camden’s Harbor Park, by the waterfront.

Indoor Book Sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Camden Public Library, to benefit the book fund.
Sunday, August 30
Indoor Book Sale 1 to 5 p.m., at the Camden Public Library, to benefit the book fund.
Tuesday, September 1
Opening art reception for Artist of the Month Sandy Cirillo, 6 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome. Cirillo’s works are created with fibers and other materials “for an experience in tactile imagery and contrasts!”
