Concert-goers will experience the captivating rhythms and rich cultural heritage of Mexico as Caña Dulce y Caña Brava presents the music, poetry, dance and traditional attire of Veracruz. These acclaimed performers have years of experience on both national and international stages, and bring an authentic interpretation of the jarocha culture.

The audience will be taken on a voyage through multiple rhythms, accompanied by traditional string instruments such as the harp and the jarana, percussion and zapateado (percussive dance), poetic improvisations, and visual effects projections.

“Caña Dulce y Caña Brava unites the traditional with the contemporary in a performance that appeals to diverse and multi-generational audiences,” said Strand Theatre, in a news release.

About Caña Dulce y Caña Brava

Since its formation in 2007, Caña Dulce y Caña Brava’s songwriting and performances have celebrated feminine strength and beauty within the traditionally masculine world of Mexican son. Their zapateado (percussive dance) on the tarima (wooden platform) and colorful wardrobes enhance their music. Thanks to their dedication and innovation, the group has positioned itself as a reference point for current son jarocho music. Caña Dulce y Caña Brava have collaborated with well-known artists and represented Mexico in forums and festivals in Latin America, the United States, Canada, Africa, Asia and Europe.

    Running time is 60 minutes.

This performance is made possible thanks to Strand’s supporting sponsor, the Rockland Harbor Hotel, and grant funds from the West Bay Rotary of Camden and Mattina R. Proctor Foundation.

Tickets for both the live and the livestream performances are available at www.rocklandstrand.com, by calling 207-594-0070, or at the lobby box office when the theater is open for shows and 30 minutes prior to show time. The Strand Theatre is located at 345 Main Street, Rockland.
