In 1976, Emmy-winning star of stage and screen Jeff Daniels bought a Guild D-40 from Herb David’s Guitar Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan, threw it in the back of his old Buick, and moved to New York City. That guitar led to a creative outlet, became a solace, a road into the artist that he didn’t know existed.

Now, over 40 years later, he’s still writing songs, singing them, and playing. On Friday, Oct. 17, Daniels comes to Maine and will perform at the historic Opera House in Boothbay Harbor.

In between playing roles in films including "Terms of Endearment," "Dumb & Dumber," "101 Dalmations," "The Martian," "Fly Away Home," "Good Night and Good Luck," "Because of Winn Dixie" and dozens of others; and award-winning performances in television including "The Newsroom" and "Godless," among others, he has been busy writing music as well as performing on Broadway. With multiple Emmy Awards and many Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Tony nominations, Jeff Daniels is a force to be reckoned with on stage.

From Club Passim to Café Lena, from New York’s Birdland to the Barns at Wolftrap, and from Austin’s Cactus Café to Seattle’s Third Door, Jeff has been entertaining audiences from coast to coast. He has shared the stage with Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Cheryl Wheeler, Keb Mo’ and Bruce Hornsby. He performed at David Bromberg’s 70th Birthday Bash at New York City’s Town Hall. In 2012 Martin Guitars began selling the OM Jeff Daniels Custom Artist Edition guitar.
