BELFAST — Belfast Senior College’s spring semester starts with a single-session class on March 25. That is followed by ten other morning and afternoon courses beginning April 4, and the semester continues through the middle of May. All classes are available on Zoom and registration is open.

According to Senior College spokesperson Beth Sterner, “After a successful winter session, the array of spring courses is bound to appeal to everyone.”

Multi-session courses will include Dick Topping’s consideration of Ukraine and Russia and the effect of the current crisis on the entire world, an appreciation of water with Fred Bowers, John McClenahen’s conversation about Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass,” and an exploration of the life and death of Jesus, led by Deirdre Good. Nancy Perkins leads a consideration of women Nobel Prize literature laureates, Monica Morris introduces you to making glass mosaics, and Antoinette Pimentel offers a course in cooperation with Coastal Senior College that studies the victory of Impressionist painters over the French Academy. “Squiggly Line” is Marjorie Arnett’s course on creating a whole new world of expression by playing with pencil, paper, markers, and more.

There will also be three free, noontime single-session “Brown Bag” courses. They are “What’s Happening at Waterfall Arts” on March 25, led by Program Director Amy Tingle, “We Aren’t What We Think We Are,” an exploration of mental health with counselor Mark Salwasser, and an exploration of ranked choice voting provided by Lane Sturtevant and the League of Women Voters.

“After hundreds of people participated in the just-ended winter semester, we are looking forward to the spring semester’s classes,” said Nancy Perkins, president of Senior College’s Board of Trustees. “Senior College provides stimulation, knowledge, social interaction and fun for people age 50 and up. Members’ spouses and partners of any age also welcome to become members, membership and course fees are low on purpose and scholarships are available.” Online membership and class registration are available at https://belfastseniorcollege.org.

University of Maine Hutchinson Center provides Zoom services for Senior College, which is an independent all-volunteer non-profit organization. Its spring semester begins in April, the summer semester takes place in June, July and August, and the fall semester begins in September. The membership fee for the full year is $25 and multi-session course fees are $27 or $37.
