September 9 could not have been more splendid for a day on the water, especially for the biggest Maine Regatta held anywhere north of Portland, the Around Islesboro Race. Sailors departed under the first 10 a.m. starting gun in front of the Bayside dock, circumnavigated the 10-mile long Islesboro Island in the middle of Penobscot Bay and returned to Bayside later in the afternoon. The course was over 26 nautical miles as the crow flies.
There were five classes. The standings follow:
