Bay Chamber announces 2022 Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award winner
Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School announces that pianist Michelle Cann is the recipient of the 2022 Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award. The $25,000 award recognizes a pianist under the age of forty who has made a serious commitment and contribution to the landscape of chamber music.
Pianist Michelle Cann made her orchestral debut at age fourteen and has since performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras including The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Embracing a dual role as both performer and pedagogue, her career includes teaching residencies at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and the National Conference of the Music Teachers National Association.
Cann studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, where she holds the inaugural Eleanor Sokoloff Chair in Piano Studies. In addition to the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award, Cann is also a recipient of the 2022 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by the Sphinx Organization.
Artistic Director of Bay Chamber, Manuel Bagorro said, in a Chamber news release: “Michelle Cann is a sensational musical talent and joins an august group of pianists who have won the award and established impressive and significant careers. I am proud and delighted to present Michelle as part of Bay Chamber’s summer concerts over the next three years, and look forward to collaborating with this inventive artist and creative thinker.”
Established in 1986, the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award honors the memory of Andrew Wolf, a graduate of the Curtis Institute, a cofounder of Bay Chamber Concerts, and a leading chamber music pianist, who died in 1985 at age 42.
