Afternoon Belmont motorcycle accident leaves one hospitalized
BELMONT — A serious motorcycle accident on Route 3 just after 3:30 p.m., Aug. 4, left one man hospitalized.
According to a media report, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office received reports of the crash, and that the operator suffered significant injuries.
Further investigation indicated the operator of the motorcycle, Wilbur Fogg, 23, of Searsmont, had passed another vehicle before rear-ending another vehicle a short time later.
The impact of the initial cash reportedly caused Fogg to lose control of his 1993 Harley Davidson Sportster. Fogg was ejected from the motorcycle, where he reportedly struck a mailbox fixture on the side of the road, the release said.
Fogg, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported to Waldo County General Hospital by Belfast Ambulance. He was later transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by ambulance.
Though LifeFlight was called, the helicopter were unable to fly due to weather conditions.
The crash is currently under investigation by Deputies Kevin Littlefield and Jonathan Shaw, with Sergeant James Greeley assisting.
