Wanted: Lobster buoys for Rockland’s lobster trap tree
ROCKLAND — If you have a lobster buoy hanging around your dooryard, the organizers of the annual lobster trap tree that is set up ahead of the Rockland’s Festival of Lights celebration could use a fresh batch this year for decoration.
Fishermen have previously generously donated their colored buoys, which add to the festive appearance of the tree, but over the years some of the buoys have become damaged or lost, according to Rockland Main Street Inc., which produces the events that make up the annual Festival of Lights activities every Thanksgiving weekend. RMS is also responsible for coordinating the construction of the lobster trap tree, from the base to the lobster holding the star.
Lobster men and women are encouraged to donate one buoy for use on the tree. Buoys can be dropped off at the Rockland and Vinalhaven branches of Camden National Bank.
The lighting of the lobster trap tree is sponsored by Camden National Bank.
