The Waldo is multi-year recipient of arts grant from The Onion Foundation
WALDOBORO — “The Waldo Theatre is excited and proud to announce that they are the recent recipient of a multi-year grant from The Onion Foundation,” said The Waldo, in a news release.
Pledging $20,000 in unrestricted support each year for the next 3 years, the grant is intended to support general operating expenses. The Waldo will use this generous gift to help build staffing capacity, expand programming and youth educational programs, invest in audio/ visual upgrades, and continue with building and grounds improvements.
“The Onion Foundation is significantly helping to support The Waldo’s mission of connecting, enriching, and entertaining our community through the arts,” said Waldo Theatre Board President Keri Lupien. “This grant award demonstrates their belief in what we’re doing and their confidence in our ability to succeed.”

About The Waldo Theatre
The Waldo Theatre is not only a beautifully restored performance and movie venue; it is a community organization, reopened in 2021 after years of closure to unify and strengthen our region through performing arts and educational programs. We are deeply committed to the stewardship of this historic landmark and are working to spark an economic and cultural renaissance in downtown Waldoboro and across the Midcoast region. Our board, staff, and volunteers believe in the transformative power of the arts to engage, educate, and entertain. Through activities like our signature youth arts program, master classes by professional artists, and collaborations with other non-profits, the Waldo seeks to enrich the region’s cultural offerings for all residents, regardless of means, and enhance the quality of life for all.
