Heléna Melone named Belfast Arts 2023 Artist of the Year
BELFAST — Heléna Melone, of Datura Arts, has been named 2023 Artist of the Year by The Belfast Arts in the Park Event Committee.
As both a visual artist and a dancer, Melone’s work is rooted in the seasonal rhythms of Midcoast Maine: seasonal, diurnal, lunar, tidal, and heartbeat. The form of her visual art is inspired by Japanese Shinto scrolls, and its content is inspired by the natural world around us as it transforms throughout the year.
Painting on silk, a canvas that moves with every breath and gesture, she seeks to mirror the evanescence of life, evoke the magic of encounters with the other-than-human world, and remind us of our interconnectedness. The potent beauty and vitality of the landscape around us comes to life in all her creations: silk paintings, wearables, home décor and more.
