Aging Well in Waldo County ‘Mason’s Elder Outreach’ renewed for second year
Aging Well in Waldo County (AWWC) celebrates its second-year partnership with the Masons of Waldo County District 8. The Masons’ Elder Outreach program is a way to support seniors to find it easier to continue living in their own homes. The Masons do small home repair and maintenance, such as climbing on ladders to change light bulbs, clean gutters or fix a broken step.
A grant awarded by the Grand Lodge of Maine has been set aside to handle small purchases; The service is free, but donations to the fund for repairs are welcome.
Wendy C. Kasten, AWWC Chair, reports a regular stream of requests, according to AWWC, in a news release. Some queries are for changing batteries in an alarm system, the installation of window air conditioner, or clearing a fallen branch from a driveway. Projects that require extensive work might be referred to WCAP for review.
To call for this opportunity and to inquire about your service need, call 207-218-0207 and select option 2. Leave a message and your call will be returned. A volunteer will ask for an address, description of a project and perhaps request a photo, or schedule a site visit. Brendan Bruns of District 8 Masons will evaluate the request and find a lodge member to fill the requests.
