We will all miss Barbie D. very, very much
Gosh, so many of us could write about Barbie D. and our many memories and stories! Your lovely piece made me cry. I did not know she was that close to the end so I missed saying goodbye, but I did happen to talk to her over the phone a couple of months ago.
I got to know her through her brother, Milt, who used to clean the original Owl and Turtle store early before most of the staff got there. Milt "adopted" my son Eddie and always went out of his way to give him presents on his birthday and at Christmas like adults had done for him as a boy.
Of course, I was regularly calling Barbara about one of her books and we had many conversations about local history when I had questions.
The story of their parents is very interesting and between them, both Eddie and I really learned what it was like to grow up in Camden in those days. We especially loved hearing about sledding down Chestnut Street, down and around to Bay View until you ended up by the yacht club!
If only she could have lived forever! We will all miss her very, very much.
