Otis Point Road fire leaves summer home uninhabitable
A space heater placed too close to a bed by a worker replacing windows is believed to be the cause of a fire that destroyed a summer home in St. George, Thursday, Dec. 10.
ST. GEORGE — In winter, the unpaved, one-lane Otis Point Road loop, in St. George, tends toward the quiet side long after its swell of summer residents depart. For a few hours on Thursday the road returned to a congested mindplay of where to pull over to let vehicles pass, and where to park for the good of all.
During lunchtime, Dec. 9, 2021, St. George Fire Department and its mutual aid responded to a structure fire at the summer house of 219 Otis Point Road. Owners Lizabeth and Jeff Thalheimer were not in the area today, but had spent time this summer fixing up the building, according to neighbors.
For several hours, firefighters from St. George, Cushing, Warren, Thomaston, and South Thomaston battled the flames that engulfed the house.
When all remaining fire apparatus finished at the scene, Central Maine Power restored electrical lines to the house, around 2:45 p.m.
