Charles K. Novicka, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Charles “Chuck” Novicka, 70, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta, after a long illness. He went to be with his brothers and sisters who, like him were affected by War.
Born in Rockland, May 21, 1951 he was the son of Neil and Esther Monroe Novicka. Chuck graduated from Rockland District High School in 1969 and had Pre-Enlisted in the Marines. Directly after graduation he left for the Marines. PFC Charles Novicka, aka Hawkeye Chuck, was wounded in Vietnam, while on combat patrol with G Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines at An Hoa. He received many medals and awards including The Purple Heart, both from the United States Government as well as the State of Maine, and The National Defense Service Medal.
After a very long recovery, Chuck worked with his father and brother at the Electric Shop in Rockland. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Town of Rockport. He became an avid gun collector and excellent marksman.
He was a frequent visitor at the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post #1 in Rockland where he felt he was among his Military, brothers and sisters. He was also a member of the Elks, Moose Club, Aurora Lodge of Masons, Kora Shrine, VFW and a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Neil (Alison) Novicka.
He is survived by his son ,Eric Novicka and wife Jennifer, of Lexington, Tennessee; his daughter, Vanessa Spear of Rockland; grandchildren Aikman Spear of Rockland, Amanda Novicka Tardiff and husband Timothy of Lexington, Tennessee, Peter Novicka and his partner Destiny of Weber City, Virginia, Vanessa Novicka Miller of Thomaston and Breanna Novicka of Winthrop; nine great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his “best girl” friend, Sheila Polky, of Owls Head.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock, Rockland.
A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2021, at noon, at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Mt Vernon Road, Augusta.
