Hilding E. Seastrom, obituary
ST. GEORGE — Hilding E. Seastrom, 98, and long time St. George resident, passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Bayview Manor in Searsport, Maine.
He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on March 22, 1923 to Clara and Rubin Seastrom. He graduated from St. George High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Coast Guard after graduation. He married Anna Miriam Pinolehto in 1950 and had two children.
He is survived by his son, Kim Seastrom and his wife Ann of Rockport; his daughter, Kristin Gould and her husband David of Hope; his granddaughters, Anna Walker, Caroline and her husband Nate and their children Noah and Eloise; a grandson Kevin Seastrom and his partner Trish and their son Matthew.
He is also survived by his partner of over 20 years, Mary Curtis, and her daughters, Nyoka, Sheena, Paulette, and Kim.
His first love was baseball, and he played on a variety of teams such as the St. George Torpedoes and the Rockland Rockets. He often jumped in to umpire softball games when the umpire was unavailable, and was known for his knuckle ball that few could hit. His love for baseball lasted even after he stopped playing, and he followed the Boston Red Sox his entire life.
Hilding had many jobs throughout his life, working in Wisconsin stone quarries, lobstering out of Art’s Lobster in Tenants Harbor, working as a laborer in Seabrook, New Hampshire, as well as working for Atwood Brothers. He made friends wherever he went and would always strike up a conversation with those around him.
Hilding and his wife Miriam enjoyed many years of motorcycling with the Retreads and the local Hog chapter where they made many friends. After the passing of his wife Miriam, Hilding was lucky to meet Mary Curtis, with whom he would spend the next 20 years of his life. They enjoyed motorcycle rides and seeing friends at Wendy’s, Tim Horton’s, and the Belfast Dairy Queen. Family always came first for Hilding, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
His family wishes to thank the caring team at Bayview Manor for their exceptional love and care of their family member.
The family invites those who knew Seas to a graveside service on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1 p.m., at the North Parish Cemetery in St. George (also known as the Wiley’s Corner Cemetery). There will not be a reception following, due to the recent spike in Covid cases.
