Roger R. Gagne, obituary
CUSHING — Roger Raymond Gagne, 79, passed away August 10, 2021.
Born in Augusta, August 25, 1941, he was the son Samuel and Bernadette Pouland Gagne. Growing up on a dairy farm, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and was selected to serve in an elite infantry unit, the 2nd Recon Battalion, stationed in North Carolina.
Upon his Honorable Discharge, Roger returned to Maine where he met the love of his life, Betty Jean (Holmes) Gagne. They married and settled in Cushing.
Roger was a musician, songwriter, sketch artist, carpenter, yacht builder, commercial fisherman, and avid outdoorsman, who loved shooting black powder. He had many other hobbies, but his favorite was the guitar. He loved life, and often said he was a happy man.
In addition to his mother and father, Roger was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Forrest M. and Doris B. Holmes, and his brother Clem.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Gagne; his children, Jennifer Silverstein and her husband Richard of Chappaqua, New York, Michael Burns and his wife Shelley of Cushing; his brother Reggie; his grandchildren, Forrest M. Burns, Cameron J. Burns, Gavin R. Lucarino, Jordan S. Silverstein; great-grandchildren Layla Burns, Willow Burns, Bradey Botley, Hazel Burns; nephews Danny and Steve Gagne; cousins Jerry and Diane Cates; sister-in-law, Sharon Holmes; uncle and aunt Cyrus and Carlene Homes.
A memorial service with military honors was held at the Broad Cove Church in Cushing, August 19, 2021. The Reverend Ann Roundy officiated.
