Voters go to the polls Nov. 5 to consider five statewide ballot questions, and various individual municipal warrant articles. Following are election previews and recent issue stories for Knox and Waldo counties, as well as a rundown of the bond issues voters across the state are being asked to decide.

Updated: Athletics suspended for Waldo County students through week’s end after fourth positive COVID-19 case
A second test of the presumed positive COVID-19 case at Captain Albert Stevens School has come back negative, RSU 71 Superintendent Mary Alice McLean shared in an Oct. 20 update.
“I am relieved to report that the second test of yesterday’s presumed positive case at [CASS] has again come back negative,” the statement begins.
McLean also shared that the primary contacts of positive cases at Troy Howard Middle School, CASS, and Ames have all tested negative for COVID-19 so far… Read more

COVID-19 found in two additional Waldo County schools
BELFAST — Just one day after a positive case of Covid-19 was discovered at Captain Albert Stevens School, two additional Waldo County schools have reported they have a positive case.
In a release shared Oct. 17, RSU Superintendent Mary Alice McLean wrote that the virus has also been found in Belfast’s Troy Howard Middle School and Ames Elementary School, which is located in Searsmont. One bus route has also been affected.

Frankfort man killed in single-vehicle crash
WINTERPORT — A Frankfort man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Stream Road in Winterport, according to a media report from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Jesse Skillings, 21, who was the sole occupant of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, was pronounced dead at the scene by the personnel of Winterport Ambulance.

UPDATE: Waldo couple dead following shooting in their home
UPDATE — Maine State Police reported Tuesday evening, Oct. 6, that the man they originally reported as detained in connection with a double homicide in Waldo is from Benton, not Lincolnville, as originally stated by the Maine Public Safety Office.
Maine State Police arrested a Benton man in connection with the deaths of his sister and her husband Oct. 5, according to a media report from State Police.
