UPDATE – Rockport Police Department, Rockport Fire Department and Northeast  Mobile Health Services ambulance responded to a single-vehicle roll-over crash on Main Street.

Jose Manuel Cortez-Santiago, 21, was operating a silver Toyota sedan and traveling East on Main Street. Cortez-Santiago lost control of the vehicle on a curve, left the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to Rockport Police Sgt. James Moore.

“Cortez-Santiago was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries,” he said. “Upon his release from PBMC, Cortez-Santiago was transported to the Knox County Jail where he was charged with OUI, Operating Without A License and Unauthorized Use of Property. Speed and alcohol are deemed contributing factors in the crash.”

ROCKPORT — An employee of a local restaurant was on his way to work, when he apparently lost control of the sedan he was driving, went off the road, and flipped the car into a Main Street ditch, just before the intersection of Route 1.

Two bicyclists riding along the road said the driver was going fast, heading east, and they got out of the way just in time.

The driver, in the car alone, crawled out of the vehicle, and despite suffering head wounds, he was walking and talking, with limited command of English.

Law enforcement arrived, including a Maine State trooper who speaks Spanish, and was able to convince the driver to get into a North East Mobile Health Services ambulance to be transported to Pen Bay Medical Center.

Rockport firefighters closed the road, while Central Maine Power arrived to replace a power pole and restore electricity. Camden Exxon hauled the car from the ditch with the help of firefighters.
