ROCKLAND — “When it snows, bright yellow Fisher plows appear on trucks throughout the region, keeping residents safe by clearing roads and driveways,” said United Midcoast Charities (UMC), in a news release. “But even when the snow stops flying, a growing number of Fisher employees work quietly behind the scenes to ensure that people in need receive housing, food, health care, and other services.”

More than 65 Fisher employees now donate to United Midcoast Charities (UMC) through simple payroll deductions, knowing that 100% of their contributions go directly to Midcoast nonprofits. The donations they make each payroll add up to a lot, according to UMC. Since 2009, the company’s Workplace Giving Program, which includes a dollar-for-dollar company match, has contributed more than $280,000 to UMC to benefit residents of Knox and Waldo counties.

“Fisher Engineering and its employees are proud to support UMC because of its important role and impact in our communities,” said Senior Human Resources Manager Jennifer Andrews. “Our Workplace Giving program helps us help others who have needs that we may take for granted, such as food, housing, health & safety, and economic security.”

UMC, now celebrating 80 years of community service, provides grants to 35+ local nonprofits every year. Like UMC, Fisher launched in the 1940s, and its workers still manufacture equipment at its Rockland facility. Today, Fisher is a thriving facility employing about 350 Mainers, with products shipped nationwide.

Businesses can join UMC’s Workplace Giving Program year-round.

“Research shows that employees who participate in employer-sponsored giving programs enjoy greater job satisfaction working for a company that cares,” said UMC. “UMC’s program is easy to start and tailored to each company’s needs, and employers are not required to make matching donations.”
