Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Rockland ADA public landing gangway set for Thursday
ROCKLAND — The City of Rockland will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, June 4, 10 a.m., to celebrate the completion of its new ADA gangway at the Rockland Public Landing. Mayor Frank Isganitis will cut the ribbon.
Funded in part by a state of Maine Small Harbor Improvement Program grant and engineered by Gartley and Dorsky, the gangway was constructed by Prock Marine.
“It has so far exceeded our expectations and we are pleased at the difference it will make for many years to come,” Rockland Harbor Master Ed Glasner said in a news release.
“Access to the water and especially the use of a public landing should have as few road blocks as possible. This new gangway has brought us a bit closer to our goal of preserving and improving that access for all — residents and visitors alike.
“The boating public, cruise ship passengers, the casual stroller and an aging harbormaster can all appreciate the improved boarding angle, especially at low tide,” Glasner said.
This casual inauguration takes place at the gangway in front of the Harbor Master office at Harbor Park. The regular Thursday farmers’ market will be in session at Harbor Park, as well.
