The breezes continue Thursday afternoon, albeit much milder than the winds that blew through the Midcoast overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning, and only pockets of customers in Waldo and Lincoln counties remain without power.
Harbormasters up and down the coast pulled the last docks and floats Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the National Weather Service’s wind advisories, and fishing boats sought safer harbors to ride out the anticipated swells and 50-mph gusts. And those measures helped stave off damage as the quick-moving system, the remnants of category 5 Hurricane Patricia that struck western Mexico and moved across the country, exiting northern New England at daybreak today.
The full moon combined with the storm to bring super high tides at 12:23 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. Thursday.
The temperature outside is mild, with highs in the mid- to upper-60s Fahrenheit. There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, mainly after 5 p.m., and another round of gusty wind are in the forecast. Winds will be from the southwest, around 15 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. The chance of more showers is strongest before 7 p.m., when skies will begin to clear and temperatures will be around 42 F.
Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 52 and breezy. Winds will be northwest, around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 28 F and northwest winds, 5 to 15 mph. Saturday will also be sunny, with a high near 49 F. Winds will be calmer, at 10 mph, and becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Halloween for trick-or-treating will remain in 40s F, but become mostly cloudy as the night rolls on.
