In nonbinding vote, St. George says withdraw from school district
St. George voters were asked at the polls Nov. 6 in a nonbinding referendum whether the town should withdraw from Regional School District 13. They said yes, 495 to 134.
The Select Board wanted to know citizen opinion about withdrawing and becoming an independent municipal school district with K-8 Elementary school in St. George and with a choice of area high schools for its high school students. Initial research by the Town Education Committee indicated that this option would essentially have little, if no impact on local property taxes, according to the town office newsletter of November-December.
